I would just like to say a big thanks to Alan Buckley for everything he's done for our club.He brought some really special times to BP and its a shame its has to end on such a low. He'll allways be remembered by me for the good times. He's a true legend in my eyes & i'd like to wish him all the best for the future. |

When we were good we were flying through early 2008 with promotion form and into the JP final. Who was complaining? A dozen or so league games later we sack the manager. What do we expect from any manager on a shoestring? The new incumbent will want to be successful, shape his own team and undoubtedly want to spend to bring in players of his liking. If we have room for investment, why not give AB the money to spend now? We all say we like the passing style of football that AB brings and it's not like we've been totally abject this season. It's pretty difficult to get relegated this year (albeit not impossible!) and for clubs with limited funds, an opportunity to bed in a new, relatively inexperienced team, is an opportunity that will not come around very often. Plan for tomorrow, not for today. I personally cant see the argument for making this decision at this stage of the season. What do we want from our Manager? I'm afraid the positions of God, Messiah and Pope are all taken. AB wasn't such a bad pick. I just hope the Board haven't succumbed to the premature jitters and that there was more to this going on in the background to help them justify the decision. Else, I think it's crazy. OK, so football is a results business, wouldn't disagree for a minute, but after six league games, a cup win over a Div 1 team and GTFC pen power progress in the JPT, was our footballing world really that bad? |

But have the board been too hasty? It depends on whether they already have somebody else in mind with the right credentials to take over. If the board haven't lined anybody else up then it would be an extremely hasty decision. Alan Buckley was your typical "marmite" figure - you either loved him or you hated him. I can't say that I was over enamoured with the guy but his sacking is still a bit too early for me. But the board have decided to act swiftly and he's gone - there's no point in analysing the decision to the n'th degree. So now we all need to hope the next man is the right choice and get behind him 100% - every single Mariner in the town should show their support by coming back to Blundell Park, as i'm sure the plummeting attendances might have swayed the board's decision too. He has made mistakes in the transfer window and when he gets the players he sends them on the bench. I wish Buckley much luck for the future but glad that we can have a fresh start and get back to what we do best C'mon Mariners |
