SEVERAL changes took place in 2006 both on course and off course as part of the ongoing improvements to the club’s position in a competitive market.
Immingham head greenkeeper Vince Gilroy returned to Staffordshire in July as he was unable to settle in the area.
Steve Beverley was appointed in his place after being deputy head greenkeeper at Cleethorpes.
Steve had previously worked for Marriott Hotels, and the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in the USA.
Assistant head greenkeeper Dean Wright left in January to pursue a new career so Martin Snell from Elsham Golf Club has been appointed as Steve’s deputy.
Martin had previously worked at Forest Pines, Gainsborough Trinity FC and Lancaster City FC.
Tree planting has continued during the winter with areas of rough left to grow to encourage wildlife and provide more definition to the course.
The new 10th green has been reshaped and is settling down.
Extension drainage work has been carried out on the 11th and 13th fairways with the help of Rob Redding and his digger.
The problem of clay sitting above the existing drains has been identified and the improvements made should enable the course to stay open for longer periods during the winter, as has been the case during the 2006/07 period. Further work is being planned for autumn 2007.
The winter has seen the greens in superb condition with both members’ and visitors’ returning positive feedback.
The spring programme has been completed on the greens and the hard work should be rewarded with excellent playing surfaces.
Work on the bunkers is planned for this year to consolidate the work already carried out.
The bridge refurbishment programme is almost complete over the drainage dyke while the final work on the 14th and 16th holes is still to be finished.
Off course Immingham’s previous manager Doug McCully left last June after five years.
Clive Todd has taken over on a part-time basis, and will be assisted by Jody Webb.
Their aim is to continue the efficient running of the club and actively promote membership and society bookings.
Clive will do his best to accommodate players so ring or email on immgc@btconnect.com
The professional Nick Harding continues with his coaching both in schools and on the golf course.
He runs Saturday and Sunday morning coaching for juniors who don’t have to be members to take part.
The clubhouse offers a warm welcome to members and visitors alike.
The club is proud of its catering facilities and visitors comment on how well they have been looked after by Brenda and the friendly and efficient staff.
Steak pie and fish ‘n’ chips continue to be very popular along with the excellent value Sunday dinner.
