THE Manor Golf Club, Laceby, is now owned and managed by the Grimsby Institute of Higher and Further Education.
Exciting times are ahead with the course, clubhouse and pro shop all on the verge of a modernisation with the intention of making it the flagship golf club of the area.
The Institute’s involvement runs much deeper than just the progression of a successful club.
Plans will be unveiled to create a state-of-the-art learning facility for students and the creation of a golfing academy.
The course was originally established as a nine hole in 1991 and extended to 18 holes in 1995.
Today it represents the area’s most varied and interesting parkland course, with tree-lined fairways, plenty of water hazards and a two-tiered club house offering superb views of the course.
The signature hole is the 16th, a 164-yard par three surrounded by water.
Even from an elevated tee the green is shaped to make any pin position dangerous.
Elsewhere, the course allows players to gain an advantage with short par fives but then takes it away with some tough par threes surrounded by gorse.
The back nine has plenty of mounding and gorse to give a heathland feel, with holes nearer the clubhouse very much parkland.
The clubhouse has a modern lounge and restaurant offering a diverse menu and features a veranda overlooking the first and 18th greens.
The Institute is currently planning a modernisation, to be unveiled later in the year, which will give members a club to be proud of and visitors some the best golfing available.
