Steve Gollings profile

Steve Gollings trains horses at Scamblesby, near Louth.

Since 2000, the number of horses Gollings trains has risen – along with the number of winners he has had. Before 2000 he had a success at the Cheltenham Festival and won several other races such as the Sea Pigeon Hurdle.

Royal Shakespeare, his best jumps horse to date, came along due to a new owner in the yard, John Webb.

After a successful Novice season which included three straight wins and a second to Brave Inca in a Grade 1 Novice Hurdle in Ireland, he was disappointing the following year.

The next year would be very different for Royal Shakespeare as he would go on to win the Order of Merit. He also gained several other new owners, including Mrs D Dukes, who brought him.

Will He Wish, which has turned out to be Gollings’ best flat horse to date, won nine races and over £75,000 prize money. Many other successes have came along the way with horses such as Romany Prince, Salhood and Castleshane.

Gollings recently announced he received Contraband, the 2005 Arkle winner has been bought by John Webb from David Johnson.

Another David Johnson horse to arrive at the Gollings yard is the successful long distance hurdler and chaser Korelo, which is owned by Phil Dukes. His wife Mrs D Dukes owns other horses in the yard such as Will He Wish, Castleshane and Lanmire Tower and Dukes himself owns several others.

Gollings recently added a novice chaser to his stable called Ursis. He was bought from Doncaster Bloodstock Sales and won a Grade 2 Novice Chase on his first start for Gollings before finishing 4th in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham.
