GUY MARTIN

Guy Martin, from Kirmington, is looking towards the 2007 season with a great deal of excitement after clinching a deal to ride for the Hydrex Honda team.

It will see him partner Karl Harris in some of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship rounds – but he will be particularly looking forward to the Isle of Man Tourist Trials which celebrates its centenary.

Guy will also get to again race in two of the top international meetings, the North West 200 and Ulster Grand Prix.

He moved to the Hydrex team after spending a year with AIM Racing Yamaha.

Martin started to make his name when he went live just outside Londonderry in Northern Ireland in 2004 when he joined the UEL Duncan Racing team, moving from circuits to roads in the Province.

The same year, on his Isle of Man TT debut, he took the newcomer’s lap record with an average lap speed of 122.5mph on a Suzuki– beating the previous best of 115mph by Mick Skene in 2000.

In 2005 Martin had an impressive TT, finishing third in the Blue Riband Senior TT, his best showing to date, and never finishing out of the top six in five races.

The 2006 Manx festival was, however, disappointing when he was plagued by a combination of bad luck and mechanical problems.

But Martin took a fantastic four-timer at the Ulster Grand Prix and retained the prestigious Gold Cup for the fourth year in succession at Scarborough.
